Why your sleep really matters

Over the course of a lifetime, the average person will spend one third of it in bed sleeping. Good healthy sleep is vital to heal and re-vitalise your body. However, research shows that most adult New Zealanders are sleeping for just seven hours a night, an hour less than needed.

Good sleep is one of the forgotten factors for great health. As our lives get busier, we're pushing our days out longer and setting our alarm clocks earlier to cram more into our lives. Something has to give - and every day I see people's health and energy levels suffering due to poor sleep.

Sleep deprivation can have profound effects on your general wellbeing. It can contribute to stress, reduced mental and physical performance, mood swings, aches and pains, and premature aging along with a number of health risks including obesity. Sleep plays a vital role in restoring and healing the body, so when you are not sleeping well - your health takes a huge hit.

I'm pleased to be working with Sleepyhead to remind people how crucial good quality sleep is to keep your body's essential systems running.

Sleepyhead have developed a fantastic range of beds for every budget, body weight, sleep position and health condition - and trust me, when you get the right advice and find your perfect Sleepyhead- it can literally change your life.

There are just two things in life for which you should invest in the best possible quality - a pair of shoes and a bed, because if you're not in one, you're in the other!
