Partner disturbance

Sleepyhead’s national sleep survey found that close to 50% of New Zealanders have their sleep disturbed every night by their partners.  Some of the key causes of partner disturbance include:

1. Inadequate comfort and support caused by sleeping on a mattress that is either past its use by date or is unsuitable for your body shape. Lack of the right support or comfort can cause a high level of restlessness as people find it difficult to get comfortable. As a result, they are more likely to toss and turn more often throughout the night. These continuous movements can ultimately end up disrupting the sleeping partner.

2. Out-dated Bed technology

Another reason for partner disturbance may be the spring system used with-in the mattress. A traditional innerspring mattress where the springs are linked is more likely to cause partner disturbance. Since the springs are linked throughout the mattress when one person moves on their side of the bed the whole bed moves as a result.  But with new support technologies, where the springs are not directly linked to each other, the disturbance is not transferred as readily.
