About Us
Sleepyhead Manufacturing Company Limited is the largest privately owned mattress, foam and carpet underlay manufacturer in Australasia.
Our company has been at the forefront of bed manufacturing and innovation since it was founded by the current owners’ forbearers more than 75 years ago. From our beginnings making kapok mattresses in a small factory shed in Auckland in 1935, the business has actively grown through organic growth and strategic acquisition.
Today Sleepyhead employs more than 1000 people at 19 sites across New Zealand and Australia, making a valuable contribution to the local economies of both countries.
In New Zealand, Sleepyhead has specialised bedding manufacturing operations in Auckland and Christchurch and also a foam latex manufacturing facility in Christchurch, the only one of its kind in Australasia. In Australia, we have a purpose-built 9,000 square metre manufacturing complex in Brisbane and 4,500 square metre complexes in Melbourne and Perth. We are committed to using the latest technology to continually improve manufacturing methods, to deliver real value to our customers.
Our factories, manufacturing processes and innovative support technologies such as Torquezone and Sensorzone are respected around the globe. And while many other industries have set up manufacturing facilities overseas, we continue to build beds locally because we know we can do it better – the Sleepyhead Way.
